My first Job Interview
职场英语1.48W
Yesterday morning, I had a job interview at Bosch, and the interviewer was a German, who talked with me for one and a half hours. His height might be over 2 m, and the figure was OK, not like a telegraph pole.~~ He spoke in English with strong German accent, but fluently. Without enough listening comprehension practice, I couldn’t follow it. The questions he asked concerned both personal and professional, beyond my preparation. Though the HR had asked some of the questions before, another interviewer would asked all of them once again during the next time. In addition to the first phone interview in English, the last interview was the third one.
From the beginning, I said Guten Morgen when we met. He asked, “Mr. Chen?” and sat down like a hill.
The first question he asked was “Why don’t you tell me about yourself?” I replied sure, and started since my birth to the present.
I was born in quite a small city in Jiangsu, and I started my elementary education when I was five years old. In the year two thousand, when I was seventeen, I attended the college at Nanjing Normal University, where I majored in Public Administration, and minored in Business Administration. Four years later, I graduated with a degree in Law Science. From July 2004 to Sept 2006, I was employed by a national institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) as a chief editor of Science Research Newsletter, and the only assistant to the manager of the general office. Since Sept 2006, I started working as a marketing manager at Focus Media, where I was providing the guidance and assistance for the sales group, and developing the new platforms from LCDs to cellphones. During that period, one of the most significant accomplishments was the blog marketing for Nanjing Auto Group, who was wondering to generate much press attention, and my marketing plan helped them releasing the blog-ad and successfully got a lot. There’re many newspapers and websites interviewed us and reported the event. But since the wireless commercial was criticized by CCTV on March 15 in this year, that kind of work might be illegal on the privacy rights. So, I gave it up and left Focus for the MBA Education Center of Hohai University, and became a supervisor of the recruitment and a teacher of English.
He took notes seriously, and later asked the next one, “why do you seeking a position with our company?”
My answer: There’re many causes. First of all, I was determined to work in a multinational company, especially the German, where I could apply what I have acquired to practice, such as the English and German skills. It’s said, practice makes perfect. And the second, I love German culture a lot, not because I’m in Germany company today, when I was in the college, just after I passed the band 6 of college English test, I started learning German by myself, for I loved philosophy then, and there’re many great philosophers from Germany, such as Immanuel Kant, George William Hegel, Martin Heidegger and Karl Jaspers…
Q: why do you want to leave your current job?
A: there’re two causes made me want to leave, the first one is the education center committed that they would pay me 9 thousand rmb per month, but they have under-delivered too much. The second, the headquarter found wuxi market was not prospective, and they would give up the wuxi center. So I had to leave soon or later.
Q: What do you want to get from this job?
A: I want to have a successful career, of course. At different periods of our life, success is defined different. In my career, at a more junior level, my success can be defined by exceeding my job requirements or getting a promotion.
Q: what do you know about bosch in wuxi?
A: I know about 50 percent of Bosch’s worldwide annual sales are produced in automotive technology. Bosch invented the first practical magneto, a predecessor of the alternator, which sparked most of the earliest internal combustion engines. Bosch’s corporate logo to this date depicts the armature from a magneto. Bosch also invented the ABS, and as time passed, Bosch became a leader in such specialized fields as TCS, ESP, body electronics, and oxygen sensors, injectors and fuel pumps. Bosch Automotive Diesel Systems was founded in July 2004, to support China’s rapidly growing automotive industry and to satisfy the increasing demand for Diesel vehicles, with higher fuel efficiency and lower emissions. In 2005, Bosch Automotive Diesel Systems invested the New Site and Technical Center Diesel.
I could not remember all the questions quite clearly, and later when he asked me if I had any questions, I said, "Sure, I did have two." To my surprise, after answering my questions, he continued he asked me some. So, when he later asked me again if I had any to ask, I said no! OK, that’s the key interview at Bosch, and I tried my best. What I can do now is just waiting for the offer. Whatever the result is, I have nothing more to say. They just employ one among all the candidates. It is said, there is always someone stronger than a seemingly strong person.
